Watford Preview vs Liverpool

With the successful international break over, it’s time return to Vicarage Road this Saturday for what is sure to be a thrilling match against Liverpool.

Watford have had two weeks to mull over the controversial and lucky escape against Southampton in the 1-1 draw, that saw Watford denied a obvious penalty and Parklife sensation Charlie Austin have a perfectly good goal chalked off.

Despite being on the back of some inconsistent form, the Hornets can go into the game full of confidence and belief after there above average start to the season. The football being played has come a long way since the days of having our backs against the wall under Walter Mazzari. However, with thoughts turning to Saturday’s game against Liverpool, Watford are going to have to pull one of their best performances to take anything away from this creative Liverpool side.

Goals have not been free-flowing of late with Isaac Success being preferred to the Troy Deeney – Andre Gray partnership that started the season. However, goals have been shared amongst the team with the likes of Roberto Pereyra and Etienne Capoue contributing nicely. If Gracia’s men are to take anything away from Saturday then the midfield maestros must be at the top of their game to protect the so far impressive but nervous defence.

Watford’s opponents head into the game on fair form themselves. Captain Virgil van Dijk’s last gasp equaliser against Germany will give him confidence, and the tandem of Mo Salah, Bobby Firmino and Sadio Mane guarantees goals… and lots of them.

The international break has served the Hornets well with the likes of Troy Deeney back fully fit and more conditioning in Nathaniel Chalobah’s legs. Watford also welcome Adalberto Penaranda into the frame for the first time, having finally secured his work permit.

In a game that will be full of goals, I believe Liverpool’s strike force will prove too much for the Hornets defence with Mo Salah finding glimpses of form from the 4 goals he scored in the corresponding fixture last year.

Prediction: 0-3

Predicted Line Up: Foster; Femenia, Kabasele, Mariappa, Masina; Doucoure, Capoue; Hughes, Pereyra; Deulofeu, Success.
