On Thursday, Rovers skipper Charlie Mulgrew committed his future to the club by signing on the dotted line.
The Blues captain is the rock at the heart of the Rovers defence, and with a new two-and-a-half year deal being signed, it can only mean good things for the Lancashire side.
However, his duties go far more than just being a capable defender. He’s been a fantastic leader on the pitch ever since his arrival and a wand of a left foot to get the Ewood crowd up onto their feet.
The defender has scored 21 times in 81 appearances for Rovers, and scored one more goal than Alvaro Morata since the start of last season.
With our leader at the back having signed a new deal with the team, it can only mean good things for Rovers. He’s a well respected player and hopefully will encourage others to sign longer deals with the club as well, including manager Tony Mowbray.
Following Mulgrew’s signing, another fan-favourite Elliott Bennet has also committed his future to the club, extending his deal until 2021.
The contract extension from Bennett is his second in the last 12 months, and both him and Charlie Mulgrew have stated that the club is heading in the right direction.
If Mowbray does indeed extend his contract, and continues to do business in the fashion that he has been doing, there can only be good times ahead.
