Leeds United Review 2-0 Ipswich Town

Leeds return to the top of the Championship after dominant win over the Tractor boys.

The Whites Started the game on the front foot instantly putting the away side under pressure as Roofe pressed Bialkowski whose failed clearance fell to Hernadez, his audacious volley attempted ended up going well wide of an empty net.

Only a few minutes later Alioski attacked down the left and crossed into the six yard box and the keeper pushed it inches away from a sliding Hernadez.

A moment of magic on the right wing saw Hernadez whip and inch perfect ball onto the head of Roofe, the ball powered past Bialkowski in the 22nd minute.

Although they were dominating the first half Leeds lacked fluidity and couldn’t create a massive host of chances.

This changed in the second half seeing Ipswich open up the chances started to flow. The introduction of Foreshaw in place of Saiz infected the Whites with class and and increase of productivity in the final third.

Into the 68th minute a short corner from Alioski to Hernadez was then laid back to Cooper on the edge of the box, the captain you could’ve mistaken for a forward powered a finish into the roof of the net.

Chances then came at ease, firstly for Alioski whose incredible strike from the left corner of the box hit the inside of the top of the post.

It then became the Bialkowski show making save after save keeping Leeds out. Most notably from Alioski. The little Macedonian smashed a strike toward his near post but the polish keeper was able to beat it out, Just.

Adam Foreshaw was then denied by the keeper. Foreshaws strike brought a sensational diving save from the keeper who was playing on his own at this point.

A fantastic response from the Blackburn defeat, the reintroduction of Hernadez and Roofe in their natural positions made a huge difference and added a spark which had been missing.

There was three standout performers in particular, Alioski started in an unfamiliar left wing back role behind Harrison but his overlapping  runs were on point all game, one of his best games in a Leeds shirt his game was consistent through out.

Kalvin Phillips had his best performance in Whites shirts since breaking out of the academy. Starting as a central centre-back in a three at the back he brought the ball out and was the main man pulling the strings. A composed head at such a young age shows the wonder that Bielsa has done for him.

Providing two assists on his return to the starting line up and being the most influential attacking outlet Hernadez was a class above anyone on the pitch. His movement off the ball and technique on the ball has cemented him as one of the best player in the division. It is clear that Leeds don’t play as well when he isn’t in the team so having him back should end this poor run.
