Sunderland head to Yorkshire to face inform Doncaster Rovers in midweek in the second of two away trips in the space of three days.
Josh Maja looks set to be rested at the Keepmoat Stadium which will open the door for Jerome Sinclair to lead the line. The on loan Watford man will be keen to add to his one goal so far this season and with the form of some of Sunderland’s midfield players he should get plenty of support.
Chris Maguire was most likely play in just behind Sinclair and there should be a return to the starting line-up for Lyndon Gooch, the American assisting both of Sunderland’s goals in the win at Shrewsbury on Saturday. Lee Cattermole may well keep the armband as George Honeyman will have to settle for a place on the bench. The back four and Jon McLaughlin will keep their places, buoyed on by the clean sheet they did so well to earn at Shrewsbury.
Sunderland likely line-up:
Matthews Flanagan Baldwin James
Gooch Maguire McGeady
There were plenty of positives to take from the win in Shropshire and it now looks as though Sunderland are really starting to build some form. six games unbeaten and back to back away wins shows that Jack Ross is perhaps beginning to get the best out of his side. Tuesdays trip to Doncaster will be a tough task but the confidence will be sky high in the Sunderland camp at the moment.
Doncaster are just a point behind Sunderland after an almost equally impressive start to the campaign. Seven wins so far and only one defeat on home soil makes for a side who are very hard to overturn in their own back yard. They do however have a tendency to leak goals as much as they score them. as this is an issue which has plagued Sunderland so far this season there is sure to be a good number of goals.
Draws against Peterborough and Portsmouth already this season show that Doncaster are deserving of their place in the top six and they are sure to be keen to avoid falling to only a second home defeat of the season. however, I feel this may be exactly how things go and a narrow victory for Sunderland is on the cards. Look out for plenty of goals, however.
Prediction: Doncaster Rovers 2-3 Sunderland AFC
