West Bromwich Albion Preview vs Preston North End

Saturday 29th September, Deepdale. 15:00.

West Bromwich Albion head into their game at Deepdale on Saturday knowing a place at the top of the Championship could be up for grabs.

The Baggies sit just one point off early front-runners Middlesbrough and Leeds after being four unbeaten in the league.

For Albion’s hosts, it is a different story. Just one win out of their opening nine matches sees Preston at the foot of the Championship table.

In midweek, both sides got knocked out of the Carabao Cup at home. Albion lost 3-0 to Premier League side Crystal Palace whilst Preston lost on penalties to Tony Pulis’ Boro after during 2-2 in 90 minutes.

Team news:

West Bromwich Albion:

The Baggies go into Saturday’s game hoping that Matty Phillips will be fit after not making it past the hour mark in last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Millwall. After making 10 changes in the week, Darren Moore will return back to Albion’s usual eleven.

Preston North End:

Midfielder Ben Pearson could make his first league appearance since being sent off against Bolton Wanderers. The Lillywhites have no otherinjury problems, but Calum Woods, Sean Maguire and Billy Bodin  remain out.

Predicted line-ups:

Albion: Johnstone; Dawson, Hegazi, Bartley; Phillips, Livermore, Brunt, Gibbs; Barnes, Rodriguez, Gayle.

Preston: Maxwell; Fisher, Clarke, Davies, Robinson; Browne, Gallagher, Hughes, Ledson, Huntington, Barkhuizen.

Prediction:

Despite Preston getting some hope from Albion’s sketchy away form this season, I think The Baggies will have the quality to get the win. I think it will be a solid 2-0 win for Moore’s men with Gayle and Phillips scoring.
