Former Rotherham United striker Lewis Grabban scored from the spot with four–minutes remaining as Nottingham Forest beat the Millers 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Williams fouled Ben Osborn, which gave Grabban the chance to score from the spot. The striker sent Marek Rodak the wrong way.
The first real chance came on nine minutes for the hosts as Osborn tried to play in Grabban but he put too much on the ball and Rodak claimed.
Williams then blocked Joao Carvalho’s chance, the corner was worked to Gil Dias who set up Osborn – his effort was blocked for a corner and Rodak punched clear.
With just under 10 minutes before half–time, Grabban saw an effort from 20–yards blocked by Billy Jones, before Kyle Vassell did well to hold the ball up before setting up Ryan Manning whose effort from 20–yards goes over.
After the break it was the Millers who started the brighter, Will Vaulks combined well with Manning to set Vassell away on the left and his low cross was cleared by Forest.
The hosts had their best chance of the game soon after, Saidy Janko’s cross picked out Carvalho whose effort went over Rodak and hit the outside of the post.
The Millers went close to opening the scoring on 57 minutes when Michael Smith’s low cross and Vassell just failed to make contact on the ball.
With 15 minutes to go Smith was fouled and Matt Palmer’s cross was headed away by Danny Fox, before Jones played in Smith who held the ball up well and set up Richie Towell – whose shot at a tight angle was saved by Costel Pantilimon.
With five minutes to go the Millers undone their hard work and conceded a penalty as Williams brought down Osborn and the referee felt it was enough for a spot kick.
Grabban stepped up and sent Rodak the wrong way to give the hosts the lead, and them all three points.
