Leeds United Preview vs Birmingham City

Following a dominant victory over Preston on Tuesday night, Leeds remain top of the league by one point over rivals Middlesbrough. Next up for Bielsa’s boys are Garry Monk’s Birmingham City. In today’s press conference, Bielsa praised Monk as a manager and believes that “the few goals they conceded doesn’t correspond with their league ranking.”

The dominating nature of the Preston result will have done a lot of good for the players, who coming into the game hadn’t won in three. In particular the result would’ve been a real confidence booster for Tyler Roberts, who scored two on his second league start for the club. After a poor game against Millwall where he wasted three or four good opportunities, it was pivitol for him to open his account in the absence of the first and second choice forwards.

This weeks opponents currently sit 20th in the table only picking up 6 points from 8 games. A key player for them will be Harlee Dean. The big centre half has been part of the solid back four that has seen them only conceding 7 goals, making them the fourth best defensive unit in the league.

Dean has been a key man in helping Monk’s men from conceding often as his commanding presence is often too much for the opposition forwards. He represents a relatively new breed in defenders as he is good on the ball with playing it out from the back.

Similarly to the likes of Middlesbrough and Millwall, Birmingham will look to sit back and not commit too many players forward when in possession, forcing Leeds to be the catalyst to their own downfall.
