Leeds United 3-0 Preston – Whites Extend Unbeaten Run

A first ever brace for Tyler Roberts in a Leeds shirt and a header from captain Liam Cooper sees the Whites breeze past Preston. Leeds now go 3 points clear at the top of the table and remain unbeaten.

Leeds started the slower of the two teams allowing a few half chances to fall the way of Preston, but after the ten minute mark Leeds kicked into gear and the chances started to come.

Preston came to Elland Road with a clear game plan of sitting back and not to commit too many men forward when they have possession. So as Preston tried to make the game as scrappy as possible, it was only fitting that the opening goal was scrappy as well. A corner whipped into space was met by the diving head of Cooper, and his attempt had just enough power to get past the hand of Declan Rudd.

Leeds could’ve been three up at the break, as Ezgjan Alioski had the ball in the back of the net but an offside flag ruled that out and a chance for Mateusz Klich one- on- one just went wide.

Leeds carried their hunger into the second half, and if it wasn’t for the woodwork Samu Saiz would have his first league goal this season. Eventually Marcelo Bielsa’s men were out of sight when Kalvin Phillips played an inch perfect pass down the line to Roberts, who did very well to control the bouncing ball before feathering a delightful lob over the on-rushing Rudd in the 74th minute.

It was that man again on the 82nd minute after good work on the right for Leeds with Saiz and Klich. A fantastic ball was played in by the Polish international which was met perfectly by Roberts to kill the game.
