Bristol City Preview vs Wigan Athletic

After a disappointing performance on Tuesday night at The Hawthorns, City will head to Wigan looking to get back to winning ways.

Tuesday evening saw Lee Johnson’s side squander a mass amount of opportunities early on and that came back to bite them later on as they fell 3-0 down at half time to West Brom. A resurgent side came out after the break with Lloyd Kelly and Famara Diedhiou finding the back of the net but it wasn’t enough as the Baggies came out 4-2 winners.

City’s opponents for this weekend’s opener enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Hull City on Tuesday evening and sit just a point behind City in seventh; a solid start to the season considering they were only promoted from League One in May.

The Robins have a surprisingly good record against The Latics, having lost on just three occasions since 1990 and having also won the only two meetings against the Greater Manchester side in the last 15 years.

City’s defence will have to be better than it was in the preview game with Wigan having various attacking options including the likes of Northern Ireland international Will Grigg and Nick Powell – who have both bagged three goals this season.

Andreas Weimann will be hoping to get his name back on the scoresheet after failing to score in his last three games, while Famara Diedhiou is expected to replace Matty Taylor in the starting eleven after scoring a terrific solo goal on Tuesday. Nicolas Eliasson should also return.

The television cameras will be at the DW Stadium on Friday night as the game will be shown live on Sky Sports. It is set to be a interesting match with both sides an outside shot at making the play-offs.

Prediction: Wigan 1-2 City

Predicted Lineup: Maenpaa; Hunt, Webster, Kalas, Kelly; Eliasson, Brownhill, Pack, Watkins; Diedhiou, Weimann
