Hull City Preview vs Wigan Athletic (A)

Nigel Adkins’ men will be heading to the DW Stadium in high spirits on the back of an encouraging performance in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich.

Tonight’s opponents, newly promoted Wigan currently occupy 11th place in the table after a start to the season above the expectations of many. The Latics have been particularly impressive on their own turf, winning two and drawing one of their three Championship home games thus far.

Conversely, City will be looking to continue their decent away form this season, but they’ll have their work cut out if they are to come away with something from this one.

For the first time this season, the starting eleven that has become relatively predictable, despite a lot of chopping and changing, faces a lot of competition for places. With potential injury woes regarding Batty and Kingsley partnered with fantastic substitute performances on Saturday, it’ll be interesting to see what system we play with.

Credit to Adkins, he certainly sticks to his guns in terms of team selection and rarely makes unwarranted changes. As a result, I suspect Campbell will retain his position up front with Martin having to settle for a place on the bench, it would be unjust to drop any of the starting eleven from Saturday after a solid display throughout and therefore straight swaps of Lichaj for Kingsley and Irvine for Batty would be our best bet.

Consequently, my team prediction for tonight is: (Right to left)

Marshall

Burke-De Wijs-Elphick-Lichaj

Bowen-Irvine-Henriksen-Kane

Evandro

Campbell

Prediction:

Wigan Athletic 2-2 Hull City with Chris Martin coming off the bench to score.
