Tuesday night will see Tony Mowbray travel with his squad to Pride Park to take on Frank Lampard’s Derby County.
Coming just a few days after the late agony against Aston Villa, I’d expect to see a couple of changes made within the squad. Surely Mowbray is now able to see that Smallwood just isn’t doing a job for us this season, and it came as a surprise to see Joe Rothwell benched on Saturday, despite an excellent start to life with Rovers. Harrison Reed also made a promising debut after coming on as a substitute and he would make an excellent change for Smallwood.
Derby County have made a decent start to the season and will no doubt be eyeing at least a playoff spot come may, so Rovers will have to be in full gear for the meet up, we certainly can’t afford another performance like our last away outing to Bristol. Taking chances in this game is an absolute must as we have been made to pay far to many times already this season.
Predicted Starting XI:
Nyambe Mulgrew Lenihan Bell
Armstrong Dack Bennett
A decent display from Adam Armstrong last game I would say probably deserves him a place in the starting lineup, but Smallwood should be dropped for Reed and whilst I doubt he’ll be allowed to start, it would be great to see some action from Joe Rothwell.
Danny Graham is much more of a proven goalscorer than what Ben Brereton is, but again with his age Brereton should be allowed to feature at some point in the game, as he has a very physical presence on the pitch.
Despite conceding late on to Villa, there was still an good performance from the lads on Saturday and whilst it may seem a little optimistic after one point from our last two games, I’d say Rovers could nick it either 1-0 or 2-1.
