Friday 14th September, St. Andrews. 7:45pm.
Friday night, under the lights, sees the first Midland’s derby of the 2018/19 Championship season.
West Brom will make a short trip over the second city as they travel to Birmingham City, looking for a win to take them to 3rd in the Championship.
Albion come back from the international break high on confidence following a controlling 2-1 win over Stoke City, featuring two wonder strikes from striker Dwight Gayle.
The Baggies opponents could only wish for a player like Gayle right now with the Blues failing to net in four out of their six league matches this season.
Birmingham City head into Friday’s game learning they could face a 12-point deduction by Christmas after failing Financial Fair Play rulings.
It is the first time the two teams have met since Albion’s 2-1 victory over Blues in the FA Cup 4th round in 2015.
West Bromwich Albion:
Duo Dwight Gayle and Matty Phillips will be fit for Friday’s derby game after coming through knocks picked up against Stoke City. Defender Ahmed Hegazi was the only full international for Albion over the past two weeks but has come through unscathed from Egypt’s African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Baggies will likely be unchanged from their win over The Potters.
Blues have no new injury concerns over the international break. Long-term absentees Isaac Vassell and David Davis are still sidelined.
Personally, I am really excited for Friday night and hopefully both sides will do Midland’s football proud. I believe Albion will be too strong for their hosts and with Blues struggling to score, they could really struggle to threaten Albion’s somewhat shaky defence. The Baggies should be too strong in attack with Gayle starting to come good. 2-0 West Brom, Gayle and Barnes with the goals.
