It is back to business for Chris Wilders Sheffield United as they look to maintain the form they showed against the likes of Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa prior to the International break.
Whilst England themselves may have been disappointed, two Blades players were not as they both received the nod for their country.
Dean Henderson and Enda Stevens both won international caps on Thursday evening.
Henderson played the full 90-minutes and kept a clean sheet after getting the call ahead of Angus Gunn for England’s U21s, as Aidy Bothroyd’s side took another step towards qualification for the Euros in Italy next June.
The young Three Lions were held to a goalless draw by the Netherlands at Carrow Road but remain favourites to qualify from group four with three games remaining, the next of which is in Latvia on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Stevens replaced Burnley’s Stephen Ward just after the hour, as the Republic of Ireland slipped to a 4-1 defeat against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium.
John Egan was an unused substitute for Ireland, whilst Ben Woodburn didn’t feature for Wales, who were 3-0 up at half-time.
With one more round of Internationals to play before Chris Wilder has his full squad back. Will these extra minutes make his players more match fit? Or left fatigued and off the pace when they travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City this coming Saturday?
