Oldham Athletic Preview vs Newport County

Oldham Athletic will hope to continue their good run in League Two when Newport County visit Boundary Park this weekend with the club sitting in the play-off positions currently.

Wins over Morecambe and Crawley Town have shown that the club could be fighting up at the sharp end of the table but it will be hoped that one month into the season that this can continue.

A loss to Barnsley occurred this past Tuesday but there was a lot of positives. The Tykes only scored when main goal threats Sam Surridge and Callum Lang were substituted.

Sam Graham, Johan Branger-Engone and especially Mohamed Maouche also played well despite the loss in the end.

Maouche could start as a result on Saturday after his first real competitive 90 minutes since he joined one year ago.

He linked up well with Missilou and could start with his fellow French compatriot in the heart of midfield.

The defence will likely change after Peter Clarke and Rob Hunt were rested on Tuesday. Zeus De La Paz performed okay in goal against League One opposition and will start due to Iversen being on international duty.

The other player involved in international action is Gevaro Nepomuceno who is with the Curaçao squad.

As a result, the team will still be strong and only Jordan Lyden who supposedly broke down in training before even playing a game, Cameron Dummigan and Ousmane Fane are known absentees as well as the international players.

Predicted XI – De La Paz, Hunt, Clarke, Edmundson, Taylor, Maouche, Missilou, Branger-Engone, Baxter, Surridge, O’Grady

Subs – McFarlane, Benteke, Graham, Stott, Lang, Hamer, Gardner

Prediction:

Oldham 2-1 Newport

Predicting a 2-1 victory for the Latics in this one with the only question mark bring potentially De La Paz but if the defence is solid and the strike force continue their form it could be a another 3 points for Oldham.
