Lincoln City Preview vs Exeter City (A)

Lincoln City travel to St James’ Park for the first time since their play-off semi final defeat to Exeter last season, with the Imps looking to avenge their 3-1 defeat in May.

The Imps are still sat top of Sky Bet League Two having gone unbeaten so far this season with their latest victory coming against Notts County.

Opponents Exeter were the early pace setters but their defeat to Paul Tisdale’s MK Dons saw them slip to third behind the Dons and the Imps.

Lincoln tasted defeat for the first time this season in the Carabao Cup with defeat against Blackburn Rovers.

Joe Nutall put the hosts ahead with just four minutes on the clock before a first professional goal from former Barcelona academy product Joan Luque leveled the scores.

After the interval, Tony Mowbray’s side took the tie away from Cowley’s men. Danny Graham, Paul Downing and Kasey Palmer all scored to condemn the Imps to a 4-1 loss.

Exeter tasted defeat themselves in the cup as they lost to Premier League side Fulham. A brace from French striker Aboubakar Kamara saw the Grecians lose their second game in four days.

The Imps have made another loan signing that will be registered for the tie against Exeter. Kellan Gordon has joined Danny Cowley’s side on a loan deal until January from Derby County.

Gordon spent last season on loan at fellow Sky Bet League Two side Swindon Town where he impressed.

He can play in a variety of positions including right-back and on either side of midfield and will offer another option for Lincoln. Gordon started in the entertaining 2-2 draw between Lincoln and Swindon at Sincil Bank back in February.

The Imps and the Grecians met four times last season, with Exeter winning on two occasions, the Imps once and a goalless draw in the first leg of the play-off semi finals.

Jayden Stockley, Hiram Boateng and Ryan Harley all found the net in stunning style as the Imps were outclassed in Devon.
