Oldham Athletic have gone up to eighth in the table after a second win in as many weeks under the leadership of Frankie Bunn.
After a average first 20 minutes, Latics struck with two in two minutes – The first coming from Chris O’Grady, then Gevaro Nepomuceno hit his first of the season shortly after.
Both goals were volleys and both involved Jose Baxter and Rob Hunt in assisting the finishes.
From there Baxter was involved again but this time Johan Branger-Engone dragged his shot wide.
Morecambe tried to hit back with Rhys Oates heading wide from a cross and multiple others coming in just before half time but Oldham survived the late enslaught.
Sam Graham came on for Johan Branger-Engone as seemingly Frankie Bunn was trying to conserve the lead by putting on another defender.
What came in the second half was a masterclass from loanee keeper Daniel Iversen, with multiple chances being kept out by the Dane.
This included 39-year old striker Kevin Ellison somehow not scoring a header at the back post with Iversen there to deny him in the 88th minute.
He seems like a seriously shrewd acquisition by Frankie Bunn and someone who will further improve under assistant manager/GK coach Andy Rhodes.
The Latics though held on for a second win of the season and one which sees them just outside the play-offs, albeit at this early stage in proceedings.
Despite that, it is good to see the team constantly improving week after week and proving the pundits/bloggers wrong so far who predicted a dismal time for the Greater Manchester side.
Also a special mention to the fans who came in their droves as usual. 1,638 fans made the journey to the Globe Arena which meant that with only 1,412 Morecambe fans the club eclipsed the home attendance.
