The wait goes on for the Latics first win of the season. The chance to get a win may come when the Silkmen come to town this weekend for the second home tie of the season in the league.
Despite going down 2-0 this past Tuesday against Derby in the Carabao Cup, there have been continued positive signs that when key players return that the Latics could be up there.
Jose Baxter who if he can be kept fit has started to play a part in the side in the last two games and the signing of Callum Lang could ease fears of where goals could come from.
Lang lit up Morecambe’s side last season with 10 goals as well as a young player of the Month award and has signed until January adding more depth to an otherwise weak forward line.
Expect Dan Gardner to potentially run the show from midfield again, the former Chesterfield man has been one of the main positives this season and was again on Tuesday.
Johan Branger-Engone and Christopher Missilou, the two signings from France have faired well so far and could keep positions in the starting XI with Giles Coke in particular not playing that well so far.
Defence wise, George Edmundson continues to improve as does Tom Hamer in a young back line and a new contract for George proves how far the academy graduate has come and with Clarke expected to be a few weeks away expect him to start with 17-year old Sam Graham.
Up front is an issue at the moment as Sam Surridge and Ishmael Miller are seemingly injured and so if Callum Lang is match fit he could be in line for a debut alongside Chris O’Grady on Saturday.
Frankie Bunn has said more loan signings could be potentially utilised so hopefully more squad depth will come before the window shuts.
Prediction – Oldham 1-0 Macclesfield (Gardner)
I expect Oldham to grind out a 1-0 win with Gardner once again grabbing the goal and already it seems like a potential must win to show Oldham have the promotion credentials to get out of this division at the first time of asking
